What's the talk about?

 What is the talk about?

Ipsos MORI began a series of studies on how people misperceive social realities back in 2012. After around one hundred thousand interviews in up to 40 countries, Bobby Duffy has written a book on how wrong we are, why and what we can do about it, this talk will be based on the findings of this study.

This unique study of misperceptions covers everything from our guesses at obesity levels, immigrant numbers, trends in crime and terrorism, how much we need in a pension pot, the sex lives of young people - and our misperceptions around Brexit, Trump and Facebook.

Who is the speaker?

Bobby is Professor of Public Policy and Director of the Policy Institute at King's College London.

Prior to joining King's, Bobby was Managing Director of the Ipsos MORI Social Research Institute, which is a team of around 230 researchers in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Brussels, and Global Director of the Ipsos Social Research Institute, across around 30 countries.

He has worked across most public policy areas in his career of 25 years in policy research and evaluation, and has been seconded to the Prime Minister's Strategy Unit and the Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE) at the LSE.

Bobby also sits on several advisory boards for think tanks and universities, as well as the Campaign for Social Science..

Who are we?

Skeptics in the Pub is a place for inquisitive people of all ages to meet and converse in the High Wycombe area.

Skeptics are people who yearn to discover the truth behind extraordinary claims that people or groups may make, this can be in areas of alternative therapies, the paranormal, religion and faith, the afterlife and many other areas of life. We we often end up talking about superstition, science, religious fundamentalism, health, censorship and conspiracy theory

We make no claims to balance, and actively promote science, freedom of expression and secular humanism..

You are welcome to come along and just sit and listen to others, or if you are braver get stuck right in with conversation and views!
